TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving member of Hawkestone Park Golf Club who recently passed away.

Cheryl Greaves was a member of the club for over 30 years and was club president and twice Lady captain, but she passed away last month aged 63 following a long illness.

Cheryl also went on to be involved in golf on a county-wide level as a member of Shropshire Ladies County Golf.

Cheryl is survived by her husband Dave, who served as club president, and their two children, James and Emma, and their three grandchildren.

A family spokesperson said: "Cheryl served on the Ladies' committee and the management committee for several years.

"She was a prominent member of Shropshire Ladies Golf having been Ladies County Secretary for many years.

"She was also Secretary of Shropshire Past Ladies Captain's and was the current president of that society.

"Cheryl served as Lady Captain at Hawkstone Park last year alongside her beloved husband Dave who was club president.

"She leaves behind her husband Dave, daughter Emma, son James and three grandchildren."

Tributes were paid to her from the golf club where she was fondly remembered and respected for being helpful.

Club secretary Louisa Goff said: "Cheryl was always helpful.

"She was someone you could go to all the time.

"If she didn't know she would find out for you.

"Even when she was ill she still soldiered on.

"She was one of those.

"She was well-liked and very well-respected by everybody."

Louisa also spoke about Cheryl's long stint in the club and how she helped take on a number of roles in a voluntary capacity.

She said: "She definitely promoted women's golf.

"She worked with Sheila Parker, who is also a member in Hawkestone and has been involved in the county for many years.

"She was also treasurer.

"You would try to get people to fill roles in the club as volunteers.

"They took on the roles and carried on year after year and made sure county events were supported.

"People were able to turn up and play.

"If there was ever an issue you could just ring her whether on Saturday morning or Sunday night.

"She would never say no and would always sort anything out."
