A CHURCH near Whitchurch will be hosting a Wrexham choir later this month.

Sirenian Singers will be performing in St Chad's Church in Hanmer on Saturday, June 24, the group will be conducted by musical director, Jean Stanley Jones MBE.

This concert follows the choir's last concert which took place in March.

A spokesperson for Sirenian Singers said: "The concert will include a variety of works by Handel, Mascagni, MacMillan, Jenkins, Mathias, Hogan and Whitacre, and also the Sirenian Singers' first-ever performance of the Schubert Mass in G with choir members performing as soloists.

"There was an amazing response to the Fauré Requiem in March’s concert and we are confident that Schubert’s work will reach the same heights.

"Jean founded the choir in 1990 and has won many awards and prizes for her conducting musicianship, including at the Bartok Festival in Hungary and the Welsh National Eisteddfod.

"She was formerly the head of Flintshire Music Service.

"The organist and piano accompanist will be Christopher Enston who has been the choir’s accompanist since 2015, and has a long and distinguished career performing all over the world in concerts and festivals.
