ONE of Whitchurch’s most anticipated events, the Blackberry Fair, saw great weather and a fantastic turnout as it took over the town’s High Street this weekend.

The fair brough a lively celebration of art, music, and performance to Whitchurch, and was all geared towards fostering a sustainable community.

The festivities featured a diverse range of activities, including live performances, workshops, an artisan market, a ‘magic’ walk and many others.

Steve Chapman, event organiser, praised the help of volunteers, the sponsors and the many participants.

He said: “We were blessed with the right weather, and we had a fantastic turnout.

“We had an amazing team of people coming together to make it all happen – without them it would never happen.

“The sponsors recognised the value the fair brings to the town.”

This is the 15th year the event has taken over the town, coming back last year after a break due to Covid.

“It’s like bringing a great big family back to Whitchurch” Steve added. 

“A lot of people said it was great – and like I always say something is only as good as you make it.”

One of the most anticipated bands that played at the event was the Dreadzone, who celebrated 30 years of music.

“All day long there were amazing performers, and a lot of them have come back year after year”, the organiser continued.

“One of the ladies that was at the event told me how engaged she felt with Dreadzone.”

Steve talked about the legacy he wants to leave behind and hopes to continue building on the positivity.

“We want to gain more support to keep these things alive”, he added, “Value art, value sustainability and what keeps up the economy of our High Street.”

The organiser is keen to keep the traditions going for generations to come.

He continued: “We want to make things relevant for today’s generation.

“The world may have changed but we still should maintain the things we valued when we were young.”
