A SIGHT from the Middle East will be riding into a village near Whitchurch later this year as camel racing comes to town.

The Great North Shropshire Camel Races will be taking place at Calverhall Playing Fields on Sunday, June 25.

It's the first event to be held since 2019 and organisers are looking forward to welcoming visitors once again.

A spokesperson said: "We have been away for a while plagued by two debilitating events during the last three years but have had a lots of enquiries from people about the day itself.

"The main attraction is the camel races which will take place with several races during the day on an adjacent site to the cricket field.

"Admission for adults is £5 and it is free for children under-16.

"Gates open at 10.30am and there will be ample free parking.

"There is a fun dog show, lots of stalls, children's games, circus skills, tombola, refreshments, plus an artisan craft and food market, and live displays of weaving and carding.

"This is very much a country show for all the family."

The spokesperson added: "We are looking forward to welcoming our visitors who have missed us for this time. 

"We are always looking for volunteers to help us, not only on the day, but to help us organise the event.

"Our next meeting is at The Old Jack Inn, Calverhall on Tuesday, April 25."
