A CAT rescue charity in Whitchurch is 'drowning in clothes' after receiving incredible support ahead of its latest fundraiser.

The Cat Assist Team Whitchurch (CATW) will be holding a clothing sale in the Civic Centre in High Street tomorrow (Saturday, March 18).

The charity will use the proceeds to help fund its activities.

CATW member Jodie Meredith thanked people in Whitchurch for their response and also mentioned how the sale can help people who are struggling due to the Cost of Living crisis.

She said: "We have had an amazing response, we can't move. We are drowning in clothes.

"We have received brand new clothes and clothes with the labels on them.

"Our main goal is the raise money for ourselves but at the same time many are struggling.

"The other objective is to help other people as well. People can come and browse all these clothes and pick items out for as little as 50p.

"People can find decent clothes for themselves and their children and help us out at the same time."

Jodie added: "It has surprised us. We did not expect to get so much support."

OTHER NEWS

There will be clothes on sale for different age ranges from baby clothes to older people.

Jodie explained that CATW continues to deal with the financial costs of rescuing and treating stray cats.

She said: "The veterinary costs have increased. Food has gone up.

"Our most popular food which was donated is 'Whiskas.' That has gone up in price but it has gone down in weight.

"Before I think a box of Whiskas was under £4 and it was 12 sachets for 100 grams. Now it is £4.50 and it is 85 grams."

She added: "Finding volunteers is difficult because people can't afford the fuel. We offer an incentive for people to help us with transport. We pay 35p a mile so we can get more transport volunteers to help.

"We have so many cats in care and we have a lot of appointments constantly. We have had about 12 appointments this week."

During the clothes sale there will be a tombola on the day, which Jodie hopes will help to raise further funds - especially as a giant teddy bear is the top prize!

"We really hope it goes well because it would be something we could do again," she added.
