WHITCHURCH-based groups that were awarded a share of £15,000 in environmental grants have attended a ceremony in Shrewsbury.

Ash Parva Pond Association, Whitchurch Bowls Club and the Marches Academy Trust attended Shropshire Council's Shirehall home to collect their grants from Councillor Ian Nellins, Cabinet member for waste management, and Steve Mitchell, Veolia regional director on Wednesday, February 8.

The grants scheme came from a partnership between Shropshire Council and its waste contractor Veolia.

Nineteen projects from across the county were chosen from more than 100 applications to receive funding.

This first-ever EnviroGrant scheme in Shropshire enabled clubs or groups to apply for up to £1000 in funding for projects that benefitted the community or environment.

Mr Mitchell congratulated the winning bids.

Whitchurch Herald:

He said: “We were inundated with requests for EnviroGrant funding and the judges faced a particularly difficult time whittling them down to the 19 projects that were finally selected.

“I am sure that the grants we are making will make a significant difference across Shropshire. We are delighted to be able to contribute to such a diverse range of projects that will have an impact across the whole of the county.”

Cllr Nellins added: “We’re delighted to be working with Veolia to help provide this funding to local groups.
