PLANS to restore a driving test centre to Whitchurch will come before the town council this week.

The meeting will take place in the Civic Centre on Thursday, February 16 at 7.15pm and the town council will discuss the application by the Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency (DVSA) to change the use of two rooms at the Civic Centre to accomodate driving tests.

Currently, Whitchurch is without a driving test centre since the former facility in Dodington closed in 2022 and the plans to use the Civic Centre for driving tests have been welcomed by Whitchurch Town Council.

Town clerk Mike McDonald said: "We thank a number of people for all their hard work behind the scenes since the existing centre closed.

"This proposal seems to be gaining momentum with the submission of the planning application by the DVSA."

Other items which will be discussed include fire risk and general health and safety assessments.

During the meeting, there will also be a chance for members of the public to participate and raise any concerns with the town council.

The town council is also expected to receive a report by members of Shropshire Council and a local policing report.

The public session will end and the town council will hold its confidential session.
