WHITCHURCH opened their Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire Premier League campaign with a 60 run win at Ludlow on Saturday.

Michael Robinson joined Maisam Hasnain Jaffri in a 60 run opening wicket stand before departing, caught by Chris Edenborough off Luke Miles for 30.

Andy Jones, Muhammad Fahim, Iftikhar Khan and Oliver Moore (11) each departed cheaply with Louis Watkins (3-31) accounting for the remaining top order.

Jaffri was joined by Elliott Bowen in steadying the ship with a 49 run sixth wicket stand to guide Whitchurch to 164 when the latter was caught by Will Sparrow off Joe Williams.

Jaffri steered his side to 186-8 when he was finally run out by Sparrow for a top scoring 99 before Williams (3-61) joined Jason Oakes (2-34) in ending Whitchurch's tail end resistance for 188.

Daniel Bowen struck early in reply with opener Sam Alford bowled for a duck.

Elliott Bowen (1-19) trapped Jason Oakes LBW for five before Daniel Bowen completed his 2-29 with Edenborough caught by Jones for one.

Opener Luke Miles (28) was joined by Sparrow (23) in a 43 run fourth wicket stand before both fell in quick succession with the former run out by Moore while the latter was caught by Robinson off Shafiq Ahmed.

Ahmed was joined by Kashif Hussain (3-27) in accounting for middle and tail end resistance led by Williams who finally fell, caught by Khan off Ahmed (3-33) for 32 with Ludlow all out for 128.

Wem's scheduled clash at Newport was cancelled along with Oswestry's home meeting with Sentinel.
