Whitchurch Alport’s Midland League Premier Division is off and running with two home games against tough opponents bringing the points return that manager Luke Goddard was hoping for.
The Reds shared six goals with Shifnal Town on Saturday but had to recover twice from two goal deficits.
In baking heat at the KMJ Mortgages Stadium, Alport went into the break two goals behind but Alex Hughes got the home side back into the game early in the second half with a penalty before Shifnal restored their two goal cushion.
Hughes once again put the Yockings Park team to within one goal of the visitors with a cracking half volley which ripped into the net from outside the area before completing his hat-trick to rescue a deserved point.

Two days later a superb Jordan Evans goal was enough to settle the match against a plucky Stone Old Alleynians.
Goddard said: "It was what we wanted and that was the target we set as a management team.
"It was really difficult to come back twice from two goal deficits, especially in the heat, but we were guilty of conceding two sloppy goals and that was what made us having to find our way back into the match."
On Saturday Whitchurch are back in FA Cup action with a 90 mile trip across to Yorkshire where they face underdogs against Ossett.
