20mph zones could be introduced in Ellesmere with councillors set to hold talks on the issue at the town’s next planning meeting.

With two meetings planned for Monday, November 6 including the latest full council gathering at the town hall, councillors will be asked to consider whether they would wish to see the policy introduced.

It has proven to be controversial in nearby Wales and has seen both plenty of opposition and also support while few councils in England have introduced the policy.

At the same planning meeting, which is set to begin at 6.15pm, councillors in Ellesmere will also be asked to discuss the lack of affordable housing in Ellesmere and also try to identify possible solutions.

Meanwhile at the full meeting, which will start at 7.15pm, the latest work from the Health and Wellbeing Group, which is designed to improve access to medical facilities in Ellesmere, will be discussed.

Included in the agenda item is a summary of a survey conducted in September as well as minutes of a meetings held with Churchmere Medical Practice on October 25.

The condition of Cremorne Gardens, which is close the Mere, will also be discussed after the council received correspondence from the public over it.

Other correspondence received includes a speeding incident in Grage Road as well as a thank you email.

Representatives of Ellesmere Cricket Club are also expected to be at the meeting as councillors will consider a request for work to be undertaken at the Birch Road ground.

Other agenda items for the meeting include a monthly report for Ellesmere Market Hall, while the mayor, Councillor Anne Wignall and clerk Joanne Butterworth, will both give updates regarding attendance of a recent Neighbourhood Plan course.

Also to be discussed will be a request for volunteers ahead of the town’s Christmas Lights switch-on on November 24 and to also note details for next week’s Remembrance Sunday.
