A WEM shop has reopened after thieves stole more than £3,000 worth of tobacco products on Friday (Aug 4).

Wards General Store, in High Street, Wem, has been left with a wooden panel over one of its windows which was broken by thieves to gain entry in the early hours.

Callum McCarthy, from Wards, confirmed the shop has reopened but urged anyone with information or potential CCTV footage to get in touch with West Mercia Police.

He said: “There was more than £3,000 stolen in tobacco products from Wem High Street shop in burglary on Friday morning.

“Police attended the scene around 1am soon after the break-in once alerted by local residents.

“Dogs searched the property and surrounding areas.

“All the evidence on site has since been collected to hopefully track down the thief. The store opened again early Friday afternoon.

“If anyone has information regarding last night's break in, please contact the police on 101 and quote this reference – 22/73262/23.

“Anyone with CCTV footage of the High Street and surrounding area between 12.30am and 2am on Friday, August 4 should make it available to the police.

“Clips can be sent directly to us via messenger.”
