AN ELLESMERE school has asked all non-exam-taking pupils to work from home because of the heavy storm that passed through north Shropshire on Monday. 

Lakelands School headteacher Sophy Bellis contacted all parents and guardians late on Monday evening by email – seen by The Advertizer – to confirm that Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be set work at home. 

Ms Bellis added her apologies for the decision but added that Year 11 pupils taking exams is a priority for the school.

The email said: "Many apologies for sending this communication so late.

"I'm afraid we have no other option.

"Tonight's dramatic, heavy and long-lasting rain has caused flooding in various parts of the school, and we currently have no electricity.

"Our priority has to be to make sure our year 11 students' exams tomorrow (Tuesday) can go ahead and the site team is working flat out to make this possible.

However, with regret, we are going to have to ask that Years 7,8,9 and 10 stay at home.

"Staff will be in school and will set work via Show My Homework once the electricity supply is restored and tested.

"We are confident that we will be fully open again on Wednesday. In any event, I will update you tomorrow (Tuesday).

"I apologise for any inconvenience that this will cause and can promise that this decision has not been taken lightly."
