A MUCH-LOVED dog from Whixall has returned home after going through lifesaving treatment costing £6,000 - thanks in part to the support of generous donors.

Cookie, who lives with her owner, Hattie Stanley, was first taken to the emergency vet following a sudden collapse.

It was suspected that she had cancer which led to her spleen being removed.

But now she has been allowed home after her blood levels remained stable.

For owner, Hattie, it was a relief to see Cookie released after the horror of watching her collapse.

She said: "Cookie is doing really well.

"She is eating and drinking and her blood has stayed at 28 which is amazing news.

"She is ready to come home finally. We are just so relieved, we got the house ready last night for her."

The bill for Cookie's treatment is £5,947.97 and Hattie has been using savings and money raised through GoFundMe - so far totally just over £300 - to help cover the cost of her treatment and future medication.

Hattie said: "I have had to use my mortgage savings on my house to pay for the majority of it.

"We are hoping that what we've raised is enough to cover additional costs for her medication and other things.

"She will probably have to go back for check-ups on her blood regularly."

Hattie spoke about the experience of finding out her dog was suffering from cancer.

She said: "We didn't know anything about it. She collapsed when we were out and thankfully we were very close to an emergency vet.

"We took her there and that was where they told us it was cancer.

"The choice was to either operate, give her palliative care or put her to sleep."
