AN AUTHOR who has written more than 85 books will be welcomed to Wem Civic Society's next meeting.

Anthony Poulton-Smith will present 'Stupid Moments in History' when he will talk about notorious historical political and military mistakes in history, including the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War in the 19th century.

Mr Poulton-Smith has written many books and articles as an author and freelance journalist.

Wem Civic Society secretary, Shelagh Richardson said: "Everyone knows of the error which resulted in the deaths of many troops at the Charge of the Light Brigade, but this is by no means the only error nor indeed does it come anywhere near the biggest error in history.

"Hear how history has recorded some of the dopiest decisions, some of which can hardly have seemed the brightest idea at the time."
