Sandi Procter, the president of the Lawn Tennis Association, spent an enjoyable morning in north Shropshire during her recent visit to the county.

She joined Tennis Shropshire chair Fiona Jones and Simon Jones, the LTA councillor for Shropshire, in heading to Ellesmere College and Wem Tennis Club.

Fiona said: “It was lovely to have the time to get to know Sandi during her visit to Shropshire and she really enjoyed herself.

"We took Sandi to see the tennis facilities at Ellesmere College’s indoor centre where we met Stephen Welti, the senior performance coach.

“He told us what Ellesmere are doing in terms of their tennis academy and how they are encouraging children to play.

"We then went to Wem Tennis Club to meet committee members Pete Hughes and Mark Wilson.

"Wem were named Shropshire club of the year in the LTA Tennis Awards in 2022, with Pete also winning the volunteer of the year award.

“It was associated with the upgrade of Wem's facilities, so it was nice to take Sandi there.”
