A GARDEN party is going to be held near Whitchurch next week to celebrate the coronation of King Charles.

The event has been organised by Whixall Social Committee and will be held in the village's Social Centre on Monday, May 8 between 1pm and 4pm.

Attendees will be able to enjoy afternoon tea, sandwiches, homemade cakes, and ice cream.

An event spokesperson said: "On Monday, May 8, Whixall Social Centre Committee has organised a King’s Garden Party for the villagers of Whixall as part of the coronation weekend celebrations.

"As you would get at a garden party at Buckingham Palace we are providing afternoon tea with sandwiches, homemade cakes and ice cream from a local farm.

"It is hoped that will have musicians playing a selection of live garden party music on the day.

"All this is being provided free to the local community when they sign up for tickets.

"There will also be a King and Queen fancy dress parade and competition for the children, and a ladies bonnet completion with prizes for the winners.

"The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of a specially commissioned bespoke Coronation Gate which we have had made by a local blacksmith and we are lucky enough to have North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan attending our event and she will unveil the gate at 2pm."
