WHITCHURCH will be aiming to go one better in this season's Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire Premier League.

The club ended second to Ludlow last season and missed out on promotion to the Birmingham League via the end of season play-offs.

Ex-Newport leg spinner Shabbir Khan is joined by batsman and left-arm spinner Muhammad Fahim in joining the club while Mubeen Rashid has left the club to join Fordhouses CC in the South Staffordshire League.

Michael Robinson will captain the club having ended second highest run scorer last season and opened their campaign with victory at Ludlow last week.

Whitchurch are joined in the premier league by local rivals Wem following their relegation from the Birmingham League last season.

Ellesmere will be aiming for promotion from division two while Wem IIs will be competing in the the third division and Whitchurch IIs in division four.

Calverhall has issued an appeal for new players and volunteers amid warnings of a threat to the future.

Calverhall Cricket Club open their Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire League campaign on Saturday.

However a cloud hangs over the fifth division club with a spokesman saying "We are really in trouble."

He added: "We just can't seem to attract new players and the ones we have seem to have issues with availability.

"We are in danger of packing up as a Saturday league cricket team if we can't find new blood and volunteers to help run the club."

Chris Rowe will once again captain the club which have signed bowler Aiden Rich from Coton Hall and allrounder Danny Percy from Cae Glas while Will Lewis has departed for Whitchurch and Andy Green to Malpas.

Iscoyd and Fenns Bank will also be taking part in the fifth division this season.

Rhyan Jones will once again lead the club as opening bat while also bolstering with the return of allrounder Stuart Massingham from a spell living in Berkshire and bowler Ethan McNamara.

Coton Hall will compete in division seven along with Ellesmere IIs.
