A WHITCHURCH woman will be joining celebrity blogger Giovanna Fletcher when she takes on a 100km trek near Hadrian's Wall to raise money for a breast cancer charity.

Kim Docherty and others will be taking part in the 'CoppaTrek! with Gi' challenge over five days in June this year.

Kim will be taking part in memory of her mother who passed away in 2001 at the age of 45 after fighting breast cancer for 15 years.

She said she was surprised to be selected to take part in the challenge and spoke about being nervous about it.

She explained: "It is very nerve-racking. When I applied to do the trek, I did not think I would be selected. It did take me a few days to accept the place.

"It is going to be a challenge to do the trek. You camp each night as well and there are no luxuries involved.

"I have to raise a minimum of £2,250 which I was worried about trying to raise.

"I'm very excited but apprehensive in terms of fitness or whether I will be able to complete it."

Kim spoke about how it will be both a physical and emotional challenge for people taking part.

She said: "The biggest challenge I think will be walking every day. There will be a lack of sleep as well.

"There will be quite a few people on the trek who are currently going through treatment. There is one lady who has just had an operation.

"I think it is going to be emotionally challenging as well. I think many people will be sharing stories about why they are doing the trek.

"The physical and emotional challenge will, be quite difficult. It will be probably one of the biggest challenges I have done."

"I have spoken to Reubens and on Sunday, June 25, it is holding a quiz night where the money raised will be donated to the JustGiving page for me.

"I have been on a few training walks as well. That is coming along nicely. It has been amazing so far."
