Whitchurch coach Scott Sturdy expects Walsall to prove a tougher proposition on home soil when the newly crowned champions resume their Midlands Two West (North) campaign on Saturday (3pm).

With four league games remaining, the next three of which are away, the high riding Reds are chasing a 100 per cent record in the league.

Next up are Walsall, and Whitchurch will be in confident mood after hammering their opponents 64-0 at Edgeley Park back in February.

Despite this scoreline, Sturdy anticipates a tricky test in the return fixture as their West Midlands hosts look to put the record straight.

"They'll be a different kettle of fish on their own ground," said the coach. "Their pitch is going to very heavy and boggy, and with them having some big lads, we could be in for a tough afternoon.

"We had a good win at home, but they had a couple of cards that day, and this will be a stiffer test.

"With four league games left, our challenge is to go through the season unbeaten, but also to keep improving."

After taking on Walsall, the Reds head to Staffordshire to tackle Newcastle the following week. They then visit Shropshire rivals Cleobury Mortimer before rounding off their promotion winning campaign at home to Leek on April 28.

Meanwhile, Whitchurch are through to the semi-finals of the North Mids Shield without taking to the pitch after scheduled opponents Edwardians failed to raise a side.

Struggling with injuries that left them win no front row, the Solihull club – who play a division below their north Shropshire hosts – conceded their fixture at Edgeley Park.

It means the Reds - who lifted the North Mids Plate two years ago - now progress to the last four of the Shield where they will entertain Malvern.

Their Worcestershire opponents, who lie second in the Midlands Two West (South), themselves breezed through with a 105-0 mauling of a depleted Veseyans side.

A date has yet to be confirmed for the semi-final tie, but it its likely to be played in early May after the league has finished.

Already in the final, to be played on May 13, are Old Saltleians following their 12-5 victory over Evesham.

Meanwhile, Whitchurch Seconds, who had no game in the North West Sale Sharks League division two (south), return to duty with Saturday's encounter against Holmes Chapel at Edgeley Park.

The Reds' third team were handed another walkover in the Howells and Co Division Four (South) after Marple Seconds pulled out of their fixture.

Now pushing towards mid-table, they visit promotion chasing Moore on Saturday. All games kick off at 3pm.

*Having defeated Whitchurch in the previous round, Droitwich are through to another Twickenham final after overcoming York 24-22 in the semi final of the RFU Intermediate Cup. They will now take on Surrey side Camberley in the final on Sunday, May 6.
