Midlands Two West (North)

Tamworth 14 Whitchurch 50

Runaway leaders Whitchurch hit the half-century mark for the third consecutive game to maintain their relentless march towards the Midlands Two West (North) title with an emphatic victory at Tamworth.

After the previous week's encounter in Staffordshire had been postponed, the Reds made up for lost time in the rescheduled fixture as they ran in eight tries to soar 18 points clear at the top.

The Reds have now won all 16 league games (22 in all competitions) to already put promotion firmly in their gasp, and competition for places throughout the team is fierce. Their last three games have seen wins against Kidderminster (50-0), Walsall (64-0) and Tamworth (50-14).

Whitchurch were soon in front at Tamworth with some slick passing setting up No8 and captain Jake Rees to cross unopposed, with Tom Skone adding the extras.

More swift handling saw flanker Jonathan Cope go over, Skone again converting, before fly half Ryan Horton added a terrific effort after breaking through from half way.

Centre Henry Hockenhull then sped over for a fourth try after Matt Davies had opened the door, Horton converting to give the Reds a 26-0 interval lead, and a bonus point safely in the bag.

Young flanker Jake Dodwell carved through for a fifth try early in the second period, Horton converting, before Tamworth got off the mark with a converted try after good work down the blindside.

There was no stopping Whitchurch, though, as Joe Mullock – who had switched from scrum half to the wing – crossed for the first of his two tries after linking up well with Hockenhull.

Rees then bagged his second touchdown, Mullock then raced over for his brace after more good interplay, Horton converting, before Tamworth gained a late consolation try.

Promotion outsiders Leek are next up at home for the Reds who will be looking to close in a title that's been long in the making fro Scott Sturdy's men.

*Whitchurch Seconds maintained their momentum in the Sale Sharks North West League division two (south) with a 38-0 win away to Winnington Park Seconds.

Victory was their sixth in a row, and the Reds will look to keep up the momentum at home to Didsbury and Toch H on Saturday.

Whitchurch Thirds, without a game in the Howells and Co North West League division four (south), return to action at Marple Thirds on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Whitchurch Colts under-18s remain two points clear at the top of the Halbro North West Colts League Conference E after their 24-7 success at Northwich Colts.
