Harry Astley took 4-9 from 8.5 overs to lead his Wem side to an 84-run victory over bottom-of-the-table Albrighton on Saturday.

Having been put into bat first, Wem were bowled out in the 36th over with 162 on the board, thanks mainly to skipper Matthew Cohen who fell one short of his half-century, while extras was next top scorer with 34.

On the bowling front, Adam and Darren Shimmons did the damage, taking 4-38 and 3-34 respectively.

In response, Albrighton never got going and were in trouble from the off, first through the bowling of James Astley – who removed three of the top four on his way to figures of 3-23 – and then through Harry Astley, who registered 4-9 to bowl the visitors out for 78 as Wem continued their good recent form as they bid to chase down table toppers Whitchurch.

Wem Seconds bowled out Shelton Seconds for 77 as they claimed a six-wicket victory.

Wem won the toss and elected to bowl first, a move that immediately paid dividends as the Shelton top seven were all removed for single figures thanks to Stuart Raine (2-4) and Josh Gough (5-24).

The only resistence came from number eight Neil Durmody (18) and number 10 George Manders (26) as the hosts were eventually all out in the 39th over.

Wem then knocked off the runs by the 18th over, opener Russell Mellings scoring an unbeaten 25 as Gavin Price tried valiantly for his 3-31 – but ultimately the Shelton bowling attack didn’t have enough runs to play with.
