Macauley Clifton was the match winner as Whitchurch Alport 1946 kicked off their TJ Vickers Shropshire Premier League season with a 1-0 win at home to Wrockwardine Wood on Saturday.

Wem Town began their campaign with a 2-0 win at home to Dawley Town Swifts thanks to goals from Lewis Harper and Elliot Sims.

Llanymynech's season began with a 3-2 defeat to Telford Town Reserves with goals from Owen Floyd and Jimmy Hayns cancelled out by Logan Wittaker and a two goal blast from Ebenezer Inyaka.

Callum Graybrook's strike earned Ellesmere Rangers a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Bridgnorth Spartans who hit back through Sam Owen's leveller.

St Martins began their first division campaign with a 3-2 defeat at Wellington Town with goals from Zakh Ward and Tyler Harris insufficient.

Meanwhile the new Prees Athletic club will begin life in the second division of the Truebuild Shrewsbury Sunday League following their switch from Wem and join Bayston Hill, Craven Arms, Crown AFC, Joiners Arms, NC United Wenlock Dynamos and White Bear Rangers
