Freya Anderson has clinched back-to-back Commonwealth Games silver medals as part of Team England’s relay teams.

The 25-year-old former Ellesmere College swimmer from Birkenhead secured her a medal on the opening night of competition in Glasgow in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

She joined teammates Leah Schlosshan, Freya Colbert, and Eva Okaro to finish second behind Australia, with South Africa taking bronze and Scotland finishing fourth.

Anderson, an Olympic relay gold medallist from the Tokyo Games, said: "I feel good and it’s a nice way to start – especially doing a relay with the girls.

"To get off with a silver medal is really special and helps build momentum for the week.

"It was nice to blow the cobwebs away and hopefully keep building on it throughout the week."

She also found motivation in the high-energy crowd in Glasgow, particularly during a race featuring Team GB’s most decorated Olympic swimmer, Duncan Scott.

Ms Anderson said: "The crowd was really good. Even though it might not be a home Games for us as such, it’s nice to use it and pretend that it is."

Her second silver came in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

She joined Freya Colbert and Abbie Wood, with the team holding off a strong challenge from New Zealand to secure second place behind Australia.

Anderson’s success is the latest highlight in a career that already includes European and Olympic titles, as well as medals at the World Championships.

The Birkenhead-born athlete continues to build an impressive senior career, with her performances in Glasgow reinforcing her status as one of Team England’s key relay swimmers.
