GEOFF Ashton has stepped down as manager of Prees following a successful season.

Ashton was appointed last summer and masterminded the club's Salop Leisure League One title victory.

A club spokesman said: "After a brilliant season last year, our manager Geoff Ashton has made the decision to step down due to work commitments.

"So once again we are on the look out for a manager or managers to take us to the next step.

"Geoff has built a strong squad which will be needed and possibly added to for the season ahead in a strong looking Shropshire Premier League."

Meanwhile local rivals Ellesmere Rangers and Whitchurch Alport were due to go head to head in a friendly last night (Tuesday).

Alport will be competing in the West Midlands League in the forthcoming season while Rangers will continue to be part of the North West Counties League.

Meanwhile Wem Town Ladies Football Club have confirmed manager Lawrence Wilson will remain at the helm next season.

Wilson takes charge of the club for a fifth season and said: "I am looking forward to another year in the Women's National League. I cannot wait for the season to start.

"It's going to be a very strong division this year so let's see what the season brings."

Meanwhile captain Kimberley Bebbington has committed for the forthcoming campaign.
