Whitchurch Alport 1 Wellington Amateurs 0

DYLAN Bath proved the match winner as Whitchurch Alport marked their return to action following a four month break with victory over Wellington Amateurs in the quarter-finals of the TJ Vickers Cup.

Both sides showed understandable signs of rust early on in a scrappy opening to the match.

The home side survived a scare on 34 minutes when a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Lewis Dutton fell for Matthew Elsmore whose shot was smothered by the recovering No1.

Six minutes later and Alport had their first real opening with Judd Ellis firing wide after good work by Alex Hughes.

A minute later great interchange between Ellis and Hughes ended with a low cross for Dylan Bath fire past Gregory Fletcher as the Reds celebrated breaking the deadlock.

Alport almost doubled their lead with 15 minutes remaining with Hughes' audacious lob from the halfway line going just wide.

Hughes was on the receiving end of a rash challenge with five minutes remaining which saw the visitors reduced to 10 men as Alport saw out the remainder of the tie to claim victory.
