The third Whitchurch 10k road race was won by Matthew McCormack, who stormed home in 33 minutes and 11 seconds to win by more than 40 seconds.

McCormack runs for nearby Crewe and Nantwich and also won the under-21 category.

Second was Richard McKenna from Shrewsbury AC, who finished in 33:53 and was the first vet (over 40) home in the race around town.

Third was Mark Coulthard from South Cheshire AC, who came home in 34:03 and won the senior category.

Rachel Parker, from Mercia Fell Runners, was the the first female competitor home in a time of 48:05, and she also won the female senior category too.

More than 1,000 people took part in the race, which has been confirmed for 2020.

Shaun Burgess (42:44) came second in the Vet 50 category and was the first recorded back for home club Whitchurch Whippets while teammate Paul White trailed in a second later on (42:44).

Charlotte Wainwright (43:48) was the first female Whippet home.
