Whitchurch's under-15s fell just short in the Shropshire final of the Vitality National Club under-15s championship against Worfield.

A young and inexperienced Whitchurch side batted first at Worfield’s Davenport Park and found runs had to come by against a strong bowling attack.

Bill Ward top scored with 18 as Whitchurch were bowled out for 61 with Luke Thornton taking 3-6, Dan Handley 2-15 and Tom Parker 2-6.

In the reply, Whitchurch made their hosts work hard for every run and picked up two early wickets through Josh Wharton and Archie Jones.

But then Dan Gormley came in at number four and hit 24 off just 11 balls to see Worfield to victory by eight wickets.

Worfield President Mike Beardsmore presented the medals to both teams, and the winners’ trophy to skipper Matt Rees.

The side now go on to represent Shropshire in the regional rounds of the national competition.
