Whitchurch wrapped up their Midlands League Three league-winning season with a dramatic 43-38 win at Veseyans on Saturday.

Whitchurch broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when number eight Matt Morgan powered over from a scrum, with Robbie Leighton adding the conversion.

Veseyans hit back immediately, drawing level before using their size advantage to drive over for a second try and a 14-7 lead.

The visitors responded with a trio of tries.

Robbie Leighton finished off a move from Ben Mason but missed the conversion before Dougie Dobson marked his first start in the first team with a try under the posts, which Leighton converted.

Despite losing Matt Cliffe to the sin bin, Max Clarke intercepted a pass and sprinted the length of the field to score.

Leighton added the extras to put Whitchurch ahead before Veseyans took advantage of the extra man, scoring twice to level the game at 26-26 at half-time.

With 15 players back after the break, Whitchurch regained control through Alex Clarke’s try before Will Lever took a quick penalty to score under the posts and convert, extending the lead to 38-26.
