IT WAS truly a game of two halves on Saturday as Whitchurch Alport ground out a hard-fought 2–0 win over Stourport Swifts in the Capelli Midlands Premier League.

The march will be remembered for a moment of pure goalkeeping genius.

Manager Jayson Starkey made one change from the 1–0 victory over Highgate United, with Marques Trowers replacing Harry Morris in the starting XI while Connor Davies was added to the bench.

The first half had an end-of-season feel, with neither side showing much urgency.

The best chance fell to Tom Messham, who failed to hit the target when played through by Adam Jasper with only the keeper to beat.

Whatever Starkey said at the break had the desired effect.

Alport came out with far more intent, pushing forward with pace and purpose.

After several near-misses, Adam Jasper split the defence with a lovely through ball for Trowers, who showed real bravery to get there first and fire into an empty net for his first goal for the club.

Moments later, Alex Hughes rattled the post, the ball bobbling agonisingly across the line before being cleared.

The defining moment came in added time, when goalkeeper Jack Sheward etched his name into Alport folklore with his first-ever senior goal.

His long punt upfield bounced awkwardly in the wind and caught out Swifts’ young keeper Alex King, who fumbled it over the line to the delight of the travelling supporters.

The only downside of the afternoon came late on as Billy West sustained injury which led to his replacement.
