WHITCHURCH Cricket Club's brand new nets training facility will go ahead.

Club chairman Iain Marsh confirmed a successful crowd funder had raised almost £2,500 and remained open for supporters.

However, the club will now press ahead with its plans to develop a brand-new, ECB-approved non-turf net facility and offer enhanced facilities for player development for all age groups.

Mr Marsh said: "I’m pleased to confirm that our brand-new nets training facility is officially happening and will be installed before the start of the season.

"This is a major step forward for Whitchurch CC and will significantly enhance training opportunities for our players and the wider community.

"Our Crowdfunder campaign for the nets is still open, so if you’re able to support us, every contribution makes a real difference."

Meanwhile changes to the committee will see ex-chairman Rod Jones serve as vice chairman.

Mr Marsh said: "Whitchurch Cricket Club runs through his blood, and having him in a key role with his depth of knowledge is invaluable for the exciting times ahead."

Tributes were paid to long-serving batsman Maz Haisnan who has joined Allscott Heath.

"He has been a hugely important part of the team for many years and a close friend to many, myself included," said Mr Marsh. "Thank you for everything, Maz — and good luck in your next chapter.

"On a positive note, we’ve signed several new players and are delighted to welcome them into the WCC family.

"We are still looking to appoint a third team captain and vice-captain, along with a women and girls captain. If you’d like to step forward, please let me know — we’d love to hear from you."

Meanwhile the club has opened its doors to the community to get involved this summer.

Mr Marsh said: "I’m always looking to grow our pool of volunteers, and I’d like to reach out to parents and supporters for your help.

"Whether you’re interested in coaching, scoring, or becoming a team manager, your involvement would make a real difference. Any support you can offer will be truly appreciated."
