PLANS to convert redundant space above a Dominoes pizza shop in Whitchurch High Street into living space are now with Shropshire Council.

According to a design and access statement, the plans for 30-32 High Street are to make use of the storage space that was needed when the premises was a former off-licence and convenience store.

However, when the building’s use was changed last year to be a takeaway shop for the pizza giants, applicants PK Silva Ltd want to reconfigure the first-floor layout to create a second apartment.

The statement said: “The application site comprises the first floor within a two storey building on the corner of High Street and Pepper Street.

“The ground floor is currently in use as a hot food takeaway (sui generis) and the first floor is occupied by a residential apartment (Class C3) at the front of the building with ancillary storage associated with the previous commercial use of the ground floor.

OTHER NEWS:

“The first-floor storage space was utilised when the ground floor was in use as a convenience store (Class E) but is now redundant following the change of use of the ground floor to a hot food takeaway.”

It added: “The existing apartment at the front of the building will be reconfigured within its existing boundaries to provide a two-bedroom apartment with separate kitchen/diner and living rooms.

“There will be a family bathroom and one bedroom will have an ensuite shower room.

“A new apartment will be provided at the rear of the first floor.

“This will be a one-bed, one-person flat with an open plan kitchen/living/dining room, separate bedroom and bathroom. The total floorspace for the flat will be 47.5 m2 .

“Both apartments will be accessed via the existing staircase and entrance door at ground floor level which opens onto Pepper Street.”

The application, which states the original flat will not change in size, added that changes will take place to windows and a new one will be added to create more light.

Similarly, the new apartment’s bathroom with a rooflight.

Consultation on the proposal will be open until Monday, April 17 – anyone wishing to comment on the application can do so by searching 23/01205/Ful at Shropshire Council’s planning portal.

A decision on the application is expected in May.
