Whitchurch Alport 1 Newport Pagnell Town 2

THE FA Vase dream finally ended as Whitchurch Alport bravely bowed out of the competition at home to Newport Pagnell this afternoon.

The Reds enjoyed a dream start with Sean Griffiths steering home from close range after Kieran Lazenby crossed back into the area from the right touchline.

The goal erupted Yockings Park as the club sensed theirr amazing run was set to continue.

The Buckinghamshire side had other ideas and were back on terms after 14 minutes with Ben Shepherd converting from the penalty spot after Ben Ford was adjudged to have been fouled by goalkeeper Ellis Allen.

The frenetic early pace continued with Alfie Powell heading over for Pagnell before Jud Ellis wormed a route to goal only to be denied by a top drawer save from Pagnell No1 Conway.

The half settled down with neither side able to make the most of their limited chances with Powell headimg over for the visitors while Jimmy Garlick and Alex Hughes had half chances for the Reds.

Alport were dealt a double blow at the start of the second-half.

First Dan Webb raced onto Shepherd's throughball to slot past Allen as Pagnell led for the first time on the hour and with the home side still reeling, Hughes was forcd off through injury.

Alport had chances to get back in the game with Jacob Farleigh's stinging effort parried away by Conway.

Meanwhile Allen produced a stunning save to tip over Ben Ford's rasper at the other end.

Jim Burnside and Mo Ahmed wanted all the time in the world to finish off the tie but Alport recovered and Allen comfortably smothered Burnside's powder-puff shot from 12 yards with 10 miutes remaining.

At the other end Elikem Amenku tested Conway from the edge of the area in Alport's final chance before the whistle sounded on theur FA Vase adventure.
