THE dust has barely settled on Whitchurch Alport's Buildbase FA Vase victory at Coventry Sphinx and all eyes now turn to tomorrow's draw.

The Shropshire club battled back from a 3-1 deficit to overcome Coventry Sphinx and book a place in the last eight of the national competition.

The Reds are now just two games away from Wembley and have put the small Shropshire town firmly on the English non-league map.

Ahead of the tie, manager Luke Goddard summed up his feelings on the club's incredible run.

He said: "Regardless of the result today, take a look at the 200 fans travelling from their town to support, look at the branding and folk wearing the badge with hats and tops. A sense of pride and belonging.

"For me that’s success of six years of hard work from where it was and I am proud."

Meanwhile man of the moment Alex Hughes shared his thoughts after playing a starring role in the victory and the prospect of playing at Wembley.

Alport went 1-0 behind before Alex Hughes levelled to make the scores 1-1 before Sphinx hit back to go into half-time with a 3-1 lead.

The Reds were also reduced to 10 men with George Carpenter seeing red before the break.

In an incredible turn around, Hughes scored two goals to complete his hat-trick and to level the scores to 3-3 and take the game to penalties.

In the shootout, Ivan Urvantev put Alport ahead before Jack Griffiths missed his kick.

Jimmy Garlick scored his penalty and then luckily for Alport, Sphinx missed their spot kick leaving Alport the opportunity to win with the next penalty.

Hughes then stepped up to fire Alport to their famous win and the quarter finals, in front of ecstatic travelling fans.

Alex Hughes said: "It's every little lads dream. Everyone wants to play at Wembley, even in non league when you get the chance

"To even think about Wembley, we have two games left. It's crazy."

The Reds will now await the draw with Wythenshawe, Littlehampton Town, Newport Pagnall, North Shields, Hamworthy Utd, Southall and Loughborough Utd also in the last eight.
