ALEX Hughes starred with four goals as Whitchurch Alport stormed back to form with a 4-1 win at Lichfield City in the Midlands Premier League.

Whitchurch Alport took the lead after 17 minutes after Lichfield goalkeeper James Beeson tripped Hughes in the penalty area who dispatched the penalty.

Whitchurch were on top for the majority of the first-half and Hughes again was sent in on goal moments later with his low effort kept out by Beeson who had a busy evening at the Trade Tyre Stadium.

The hosts were level at the break with Charlie Shaw linking with Max Black whose cross was converted by Kyle Patterson at the second attempt.

Hughes restored the Shropshire side's just three minutes into the second-half and completed his hat-trick on the hour with his second penalty after being brought down by Black.

Hughes added a fourth with 12 minutes remaining with his deflected effort leaving Beeson stranded.

Lichfield rallied late on with Dan Lomas denied by goalkeeper Ellis Allen while Shaw dragged a shot wide.
