WHITCHURCH Alport extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 2-0 win at home to AFC Wulfrunians in the Midlands Premier League.

The Reds raced ahead on 11 minutes with captain Sean Griffiths converting a cross from Jack Griffiths.

Visiting goalkeeper Tom Hayward denied Alex Hughes as the Reds pressed for a second which duly arrived five minutes into the second-half with Ivan Urvantev lashing home from 30 yards for a contender for goal of the season.

Alport could have added a late third only for Jud Ellis to fire onto the woodwork but the Reds had already done enough to secure the spoils.

Meanwhile Prees United booked their place in the third round of the Shropshire Cup with a 2-1 win at Trefonen.

A Rich Morris penalty saw the home side break the deadlock but Prees replied before the break when Alex Cadman’s free-kick found the net.

Prees led for the first time with Chris Owen slotting home a 65th minute penalty and the north Shropshire side comfortably saw out the remainder of the tie to seal their progress.

Meanwhile Wem Town crashed out of the cup with Richard Hughes’ side tasting a 4-0 defeat at Clee Hill United.
