Whitchurch Alport’s pursuit of a Wembley appearance is still alive after reaching the FA Vase second round for the first time in the club’s 75 year history.

A 2-1 victory against Sleaford Town on Saturday set up a winnable tie at the KMJ Mortgages Stadium to be played on November 20 against Malvern Town.

A 25 yard free-kick from Ivan Urvantev broke the deadlock and Alport won the tie when Jud Ellis played a one-two with George Carpenter down the right before firing home with 10 minutes remaining.

Alport turn their attentions to this weekend’s home game against AFC Wulfranians.

Manager Luke Goddard said: "We have won four out of the last five matches and from that you can gain a lot of momentum.

“The lads are in training twice a week so fitness is improving all the time. Obviously the dressing room is a good place to be at the moment and the longer you can maintain a mini run the more confidence builds.”

In other news, both Josh Lane and Adam Clayton have left the club with Goddard citing long distance travel as a significant issue for both players.

Meanwhile Wem Town lost 1-0 at Gobowen Celtic in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League while Prees United lost 4-0 at Shrewsbury Juniors.
