WHITCHURCH Alport continued their preparations for life in the West Midlands League with a 3-2 friendly win at former North West Counties rivals Ellesmere Rangers in midweek.

The Reds cruised into a three goal lead through goals from Ivan Urvantev, Josh Lane and Jacob Farleigh.

In a busy opening period Jud Ellis and Alex Hughes were both denied by a couple of good saves but Alport led when Alex Hughes was upended in the area and Ivan Urvantev sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Minutes later and Alport increased their lead in fortuitous circumstances.

Sean Griffiths' precise corner was flicked on by Adam Clayton and Josh Lane converted from close range.

The relentless Whitchurch pressure saw Ellis and Hughes and Byron Harrison go close before Ellis played an exquisite ball into the path of Jacob Farleigh to add a third after the break.

With 20 minutes to play Ellesmere scored what looked like a consolation strike and managed to make the scoreline a little more respectable with an injury time goal.

Flint Town United visit the KMJ Mortgages Stadium on Saturday (3pm), before an exciting looking clash on Wednesday night against a Shrewsbury Town XI (19:45).
