A WHITCHURCH-based coffee maker has harked back to his roots with his latest blend, as well as raising money for local good causes.

Dan Ridgway runs Cafe Voodoo, based in Prees and has named his latest batch 'Talbot Blend', in honour of Whitchurch's – and his own – history.

As well as connecting the name of the latest blend to the town, Dan says he will also be donating a percentage of the funds to Sir John Talbot's, having attended the school as a youngster.

"Sir John Talbot's was chosen as my time there between 1999 and 2004, at both the school and the college, we’re not only happy years but stood me in good stead for the future," explained Dan.

"I currently have two nephews who attend and are carrying on what will be a family tradition.

"It’s important to give back to those who helped us previously."

Dan has also chosen to donate funds to the Bradbury Centre, an organisation which he views as integral to Whitchurch.

For every bag sold 20p will go to SJT and the Bradbury Centre.

"Bradbury Day Centre was chosen to support those who have spent their lives serving Whitchurch and it’s local area," added Dan.

"It’s nice to know that monies raised will go towards their support and keeping an integral part of our community accessible.

"They have looked after Whitchurch for us to enjoy so we now become the pall bearers and must continue their efforts."

As well as the charitable aspect, Dan says he also wants to pay homage to the town he calls home, while proving the success of local businesses.

"I have spent the vast majority of my life in the Whitchurch area and fondly call it home," he added.

"Being in a position to do so, we now want to give back to our community, celebrate and promote where we live and show that shopping with small businesses gains you better service and higher quality than some larger institutions.

"Small businesses are a basic pillar for a successful small town such as ours."

The Talbot Blend will be releasing on July 1 and will be available in both ground, for cafetière and dripper, and whole bean.

The packaging will also be fully recyclable and Dan is aiming to be carbon neutral by the end of the year.
