A TEENAGER from Wem has been dubbed one of the most exciting cricket prospects in Shropshire.

Fourteen year old Ralph Davies took six wickets as Wem stunned Shropshire Premier League leaders Wellington in a 40 run win on Saturday.

Davies is the son of Wem veteran Martyn Davies who also represented Shropshire.

Now many are backing the teenager to emulate his father and earn a host of full county honours having already represented a Shropshire League select this season.

Wem captain Jim Astley said: “Ralph was absolutely sensational, he’s such a great little bowler and rarely if ever bowls a bad ball, but Tyler Ibbotson’s knock in the first half was equally impressive.

“ It wasn’t an easy pitch to bat on like so many at this time of year and his 79 was worth 130.

“It’s really nice to get the win we feel we perhaps should have got against them at our place”.

Wem return to action on Saturday when struggling Newtown are the visitors with the Powys side desperate for points to stave off the threat of relegation.
Whitchurch make the short trip to Bridgnorth for their derby clash.
