STAFF at a care home in Wem will run and walk this month to raise money to ensure residents live a little more comfortably.

Landona House, based in Love Lane, is hosting the 5K charity drive to help raise funds for the resident's comfort fund, which helps purchase essential items and days out.

The home launched the fundraiser on June 16, with the aim of raising £500 towards the fund.

Mandy Wilcox, activities co-ordinator at the home said the comfort fund needed 'a huge boost' because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said: "Some of our amazing staff at Landona House are doing a sponsored 5K family walk to raise money for our residents comfort fund.

"This fund enables us to give our residents little extra things to make their lives more enjoyable and fun.

"Things like going out for trips in our minibus and having an ice cream or a cuppa somewhere nice, or having the funds to pay for live entertainment to come to entertain them.

"The fund also pays for essentials like toiletries etc for residents with no families to buy for them.

"We have been unable to fundraise for the last 18 months because of Covid and lockdown, and our residents fund needs a huge boost so we can dust off that minibus and get everyone out in a nice open space for some long-awaited fresh air and vitamin D.

"Please sponsor us if you could spare a pound or two, every little helps."
