A WEM Scout leader has been commended for her continued 'outstanding' support of the organisation.

Pauline Dee, who is also a Wem Town Councillor, has been chairman of the 1st Wem Scouts for several years and for her work, has been awarded Scout Associations Award of Merit.

This award is given to people who have shown outstanding and exceptional service to the Scouts organisation.

Pauline has been chairman for many years as well as holding roles in the Tern Valley District and in Shropshire County.

A spokesman form 1st Wem Scouts congratulated Pauline on receiving the award.

"We at 1st Wem Scouts would like to send HUGE congratulations to Pauline Dee after being awarded the Scout Associations Award of Merit," they said.

"This award is only given to people who have shown outstanding and exceptional service to the Scouts and Adult members, for at least 12 years.

"Pauline has been our chairman for many years and she has held roles not just in the Tern Valley District but also in Shropshire County including being the current president."

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Pauline was not able to receive her awards in person, however, Adam Williams, who is Shropshire’s County Commissioner, wrote to Pauline to sing her praises.

In the letter, Adam said: "Shropshire Scouts wouldn't be the shape, size or see its ongoing success without your influence and support.

"I am extremely proud to have you as our president, waving the flag for my amazing volunteers and my young people."
