Stelex Engineering Prees found to have over £1 million debt

A firm near Whitchurch entered administration with more than £1 million in debts, papers from administrators have revealed.

Stelex Engineering, a steel fabrication firm based in Prees, entered administration earlier this year after over 20 years of trading.

The collapse of the company led to dozens of staff losing their jobs.

Information shared with the Herald suggested that the company had failed to find a buyer before it entered administration in June.

In papers shared with Companies House by administrators Alvarez and Marsall, it reveals that the company had debts of over £1 million.

In the list of creditors, to the company it shows that 21 employees are owed a combined £45,145 in wages, with a further two owed £1,600.

The company also owed hundreds of thousands of pounds in tax, with HMRC listing a debt of £113,495.

The papers reveal that Stelex Engineering also had dozens of trade creditors, totalling £1,141,822.

Many of the companies listed were owed tens of thousands of pounds.

The largest of these is Goodwood Stock in Prees, who are owed £182,833.

Other firms include Shropshire Welding Supplies in Telford, who are owed £51,171.

Wolverhampton accountants, Azets, are listed as being owed £36,800.

DR & FA Ford Transport in Prees are shown as being owed £40,932, while Funding Circle Ltd, who provide loans to small businesses, are listed as being owed £72,465.
