Writer Kate Long recently inspired members of the Whitchurch Inner Wheel with a talk on the power of memoir writing.
Ms Long, a Sunday Times number one bestselling author known for her debut novel The Bad Mother's Handbook, encouraged members to record and share their personal and family stories.
Dot Charlesworth, a member of the club, said: "Recalling and sharing facts about ourselves and our lives should be recorded before they are lost forever.
"And Kate’s advice, including self-publishing the result, was an inspiration to us all.”
The Bad Mother's Handbook was nominated for a British Book Award, serialized on BBC Radio, and filmed for television, starring Catherine Tate.
Ms Long has published eight other books, which she describes as "bittersweet novels about family drama and personal crises."
Her talk emphasised the importance of recording family stories, including the option of self-publishing.
