A cottage has sold at auction for six times its guide price following a flurry of interest.

Primrose Cottage, located in the village of Prees near Whitchurch, was snapped up for £84,000 after attracting 113 bids from seven hopeful buyers.

The two-bedroom property, in which renovation work is well under way, had a guide price of just £14,000.

Olivia Williams, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said: "With a guide price of just £14,000 and renovation work part-way completed potential buyers saw that this charming lot presented an ideal opportunity for someone looking to create their bespoke countryside bolt hole or a buy a let pied a terre.

"The freehold brick-built cottage, which is in the north Shropshire village of Prees, offers clear scope to finish and add value."

The property, which retains several original features, is described as a promising project for renovators, self-builders, and investors.

Ms Williams said: "This could be a perfect project for renovators, self-builders and investors chasing a character buy-to-let or resale.

"The property does require modernisation and completion throughout, but currently has a living room and kitchen on the ground floor with two bedrooms, bathroom and separate WC.

"The cottage has its own, valuable, parking space."

The next Paul Fosh Auctions sale will begin at 12pm on Tuesday, September 1.

More than 100 lots will be available for online bidding, with the auction closing from 2pm on Thursday, September 3.
