A free youth summer camp is helping inspire children through sport and give them valuable life skills.
The Fort Boxing Club, based in Whitchurch, has launched a school-based programme and will be hosting a new summer camp designed to boost confidence and promote healthy lifestyles among young people.
Both initiatives have been made possible thanks to financial support from The Grocott Family Foundation.
Daniel Bailey, owner and head coach at The Fort Boxing Club, said: "Following my experience working in elite boxing coaching and seeing firsthand how sport literally changes lives and promotes purpose and good health, I wanted to transfer this into providing support for grassroots boxing.
"I have been fortunate to set up my own club in Whitchurch and one of my key objectives is to support our local community by introducing the joy of sport to young people.
"Thanks to the support I’ve received from the team at The Grocott Family Foundation, who are totally aligned with my thinking, I’ve been able to deliver two fantastic, free-of-charge programmes to young people."
Earlier this year, the club launched its five-week Fit for Life programme at Sir John Talbot’s School, designed to help students build confidence and develop healthier lifestyle habits.
The scheme uses a series of structured boxing awards.
Mr Bailey, a former England Boxing Coach and Military Boxing Coach, plans to expand the programme to more schools in the area.
In addition, the club will run a free summer camp throughout August for children aged seven to 12.
Held at the gym on Waymills Industrial Estate, the camp will offer boxing, dodgeball, indoor games, drawing and board games.
Linda Grocott of The Grocott Family Foundation said: "The work that Daniel is initiating is admirable.
"The fun, wellness, opportunities and connections that sport delivers is second to none, and we are very happy to support these superb programmes.
"I am sure the Summer Camp will be very popular and will provide much-needed support for parents looking to keep their children busy during the holidays.
"We urge people to book their places as soon as they can to avoid missing out."
Sessions will run from 9am to 12pm, Tuesday to Thursday on August 4, 11, 18 and 25.
To book, parents can message Mr Bailey on 07523 743589.
