Schools in north Shropshire have confirmed that they will be closed tomorrow.

Several schools in the north of the county have already confirmed they will either be closing early or closing fully tomorrow (June 25).

Shropshire has again been issued an amber warning for hot weather with the Met Office warning there could be “extreme heat”.

This could see temperatures reach 36 degrees in Oswestry and 34 degrees in Whitchurch tomorrow.

Shropshire Council has confirmed that the Meadows Primary School in Oswestry will have a “full closure” due to “extreme heat conditions and the school not having air conditioning”.

The council confirmed that the school “aims to reopen as normal on Friday, subject to weather conditions.”

St Laurence C of E Primary school in Wem closed early today and will be again tomorrow.

They told parents that “While we are doing everything we can to keep children comfortable, our building can become very hot in the afternoons. This decision has been made to support families during these exceptionally high temperatures.

“We will continue to follow guidance to keep children safe, including encouraging regular water breaks, limiting strenuous activity, and using shaded or cooler areas where possible.”

TMBSS, Oswestry Education Centre (secondary)  will also be closing early again tomorrow. This will see the school closing at midday again after it did so today.

Over the border Ysgol y Waun in Chirk told parents and carers that “due to the forecast of extremely high temperatures over the next few days, we would like to give you the option to collect your child from school at 1:00pm on Wednesday June 24 and Thursday  June 25”.

They added “Temperatures tend to build throughout the school day, so an earlier collection time will help pupils avoid spending the hottest part of the afternoon in school.

“If you choose to collect your child early, this absence will be recorded as an exceptional circumstance.”
