OFFICERS from West Mercia Police in Ellesmere have praised cross-border cooperation with North Wales colleague in chasing down a suspect.
On Friday, June 12, officers from the Oswestry and Ellesmere Safer Neighbourhood (SNT) intercepted a vehicle travelling into Shropshire from North Wales.
The end result was a recall to prison for the driver who was also over the legal limit for alcohol.
A spokesman said: “Officers from the Oswestry and Ellesmere SNT were made aware of a report from North Wales Police regarding a vehicle that was heading towards Shropshire.
“The vehicle had been involved in an incident in North Wales and that officers wanted to speak to its occupants to progress their enquiries.
“Officers from the Ellesmere SNT located the vehicle and while making enquiries with the driver, they suspected them of being intoxicated.
“This resulted in the driver undertaking a roadside breath test which they failed, leading to their arrest.
“Further enquiries discovered that the person had provided false details, but they weren’t able to hide their identity for long, with it emerging that they were also wanted for an outstanding recall to prison.
“This person will now spend the night in five-star accommodation courtesy of West Mercia Police and will be returned to prison for their recall over the weekend.
“Keeping our communities and roads safe.”
