A man from Wem has been sent to prison after he assaulted his former partner.

Aaron Bates, of Dickins Meadow in Wem, was brought before Telford Magistrates' Court on Friday (May 29).

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm to a woman in Wem on July 14, 2024.

Magistrates said they would consider Bates' guilty plea, but that he would be sentenced to six weeks in custody.

They said this was because the offence was so serious only a custodial sentence could be justified and because it was a "significant" assault on a former partner.

A few days before Bates' court appearance, he was recalled to prison for a separate offence.

Magistrates added that the sentence passed on Friday will run concurrently to the sentence that he was recalled on.
