An aircraft caught fire at a north Shropshire airfield this morning (Sunday, May 17).

The incident happened at Sleap Airfield, near Wem, shortly before 11am.

Firefighters from Wem and Shrewsbury were called out to extinguish the blaze alongside the on-site fire team at Sleap.

They used a hosereel jet and a thermal imaging camera.

An operations officer was also in attendance.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "This incident involved one light aircraft fully involved in fire, which was out on arrival of crews.

"Crews assisted the on-site fire team to dampen down and check for hotspots."
