Fire crews were called out after a fire was deliberately started on grassland near a north Shropshire cricket club.

The Ellesmere crew was mobilised to reports of a fire in the open at Ellesmere Cricket Club just after 8pm on Friday (April 24).

This incident was a deliberate fire set on grassland, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

A report on Ellesmere Fire Station's Facebook page said crews used one knapsack and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

It was the crew's second call-out of the day, after officers attended a fire alarm in Oswestry at 3.40pm.

That incident turned out to be a false alarm.
